A teen's first facial

A first facial, with a parent in the room

Caitlin Dwyer is a licensed esthetician with a quiet, private room on Santa Fe Street. A parent or guardian stays for the whole first visit, and your teen says what they are comfortable with.

The first visit

A first facial, step by step

Plan on about an hour at the studio. The facial itself is 45 minutes.

  • Book your visit

A parent or guardian books on the booking page or by phone. Choose the first facial, or the 20-minute consultation if your teen would rather talk first. A deposit holds a facial and goes toward it.

  • What to bring

Bring the products your teen uses now, or a photo of them, and any questions from either of you. Skin as it is: no need to scrub up first.

    • Your teen's own products, or a photo

    • Questions from your teen and from you

    • Come five or ten minutes early

  • What to expect

Caitlin talks with your teen first, with you there, and writes down what they say. She names each step before she does it, and your teen can ask her to stop at any time. You stay in the room.

  • Afterward

Caitlin writes a short routine on a card, in order, with what to skip for a day. She goes over it with both of you. Book the next visit if your teen wants one, or don't.

Caitlin's prices show on the booking page when you choose a service, so a parent or guardian sees them before confirming.

The parent line

What a parent can count on

Six things Caitlin says to every family before the first visit.

  • From age 13

Caitlin sees teens aged 13 and up. If your child is younger, call first and talk it over with her.

  • A parent or guardian stays

For a first facial, an adult from home is in the room from the first question to the last, and signs the booking.

  • Your teen says what is comfortable

Caitlin asks before each step. Your teen can say stop at any time, and she stops.

  • Nothing is a surprise

She tells both of you what she will do, in plain words, before she does it.

  • No one is asked to buy

If Caitlin names a product for the routine, she can tell you every ingredient in it. Leaving without it is fine.

  • When she suggests a doctor

If skin is sore, swollen or changing in a way that worries you, she says so and suggests a dermatologist or your doctor.

Questions

Short answers before you book

How old does my teen need to be?

Caitlin sees clients from age 13. If your child is younger, call first and talk it over with her. Anyone under 18 comes with a parent or guardian who signs the booking.

Do I have to stay in the room?

For a first facial, yes: a parent or guardian stays from the first question to the last. For visits after that, you and your teen decide together, and Caitlin asks both of you at booking.

Will there be extractions?

Not at a first facial. If your teen wants them at a later visit, Caitlin asks both of you first.

Can my teen come in with breakouts?

Yes. Tell Caitlin when you book. She may suggest a calmer visit or another day, and she will say why.

Who should ask a doctor first?

If your teen uses a prescription skin medicine, has a skin condition a doctor is managing, or you are unsure about a product, ask your doctor before you book. Tell Caitlin at booking so she can plan the visit around it.

Choose a time

A parent or guardian picks a service and a time on Caitlin's booking page. Not sure which? Start with the 20-minute consultation.
